Prairie Rose Alpacas, LLC

Where Fiber Blossoms!

Beginnings and Mission Statement

Everything is coming up roses!

Prairie Rose sires produce superior cria based on outstanding genetics! Crescent Moon's Borromeo (light brown with gray) and Majestic Peruvian Diego (light brown) both have dense fiber, excellent crimp and most importantly both sires maintain these traits as they age. These traits are very desirable whether you are a new farm, or have been alpaca owners and breeders for years!

Our journey at Prairie Rose Alpacas began in 2011 when we visited a local Illinois farm during “National Alpaca Days.” Alpacas became our livestock choice because they are easy to handle, hardy, leave little to no carbon footprint and their fecal "beans" add to the environment. Alpacas produce the sustainable products of fiber, breeding services and breeding livestock. Prairie Rose Alpacas was born that fateful September afternoon and we haven't looked back since!

Our small herd of foundation females was purchased from our friends and mentors Bart and Rhonda Leinberger at Alpacas of Indian Point Hills. In 2012, our first two cria, Graziosio Fiorellino (Gracie) and Kiss of Light (Beaker), expanded our foundation herd, and Bruce, Barb's older brother, joined the business. We continue to educate ourselves and have become invested in helping to advance the alpaca industry in both the breeding of alpacas and their fiber production. We have enlarged our breeding stock by purchasing quality stock from leading North American breeders, including the farms Majestic Meadows and Crescent Moon. We attend seminars and show our animals at AOA certified alpaca shows. Barb is also a certified fiber sorter.

We are confident in our farm's ability to provide high quality stud services, breeding females and amiable animals for fiber enthusiasts and 4-H clubs alike. Take a look around our website and feel free to contact us with any questions regarding any of the alpacas you see. We love to chat with current alpaca owners, future alpaca owners, or anyone who is interested in alpacas! Unfortunately, due to liability issues the farm is closed to public tours at this time.

FARM MISSION STATEMENT

First and foremost we strive to be good stewards so Prairie Rose Alpacas, LLC will make business decisions based on just, moral standards and ethical business practices.

We will breed quality, healthy, disease free alpacas with proper conformation. Our goal is to produce fiber with increasing quality in each successive generation. Successful progress for fiber quality will be quantitatively assessed by yearly evaluation of all animals during sheering by a certified fiber sorter and periodic histograms for breeding animals. Records will be kept documenting this objective measurement for progress in fiber improvement progress as well as records documenting herd health through both preventative medicine and herd management.

We will continue our professional development in the alpaca business through attendance at seminars and certified alpaca shows, obtaining advice from experienced breeders as well as keeping abreast of the current research advances from reputable sources.

We will provide those who purchase our animals with both guidance and continuing mentor support.
