The "Mighty Olaf" was the second male Pyrenees we purchased from Eriphos Farm. He was trained by Izzy to know what is expected of him. Olaf is the "day patrol" on the farm, but most certainly is our "scent dog", If there is something suspicious within a mile of the farm, Olaf's nose is in the air, and within seconds he's down to the fence telling whomever or whatever they better not come his way. He is the alarm for the rest of the dogs to come and check out what's going on. Olaf is most often found over in the boy barn and is "best buds" with Annie.

PRA is proud to welcome Sven, our little "Swedish male" Pyrenees from Little Dixie Farm in Missouri! When we picked him up he was a little butter ball, but he has developed into an impressive male livestock guardian dog who works well guarding the alpacas with Izzy, Olaf and Annie. Sven grew out of his "butter ball status" very rapidly, and now is very tall and lanky. He has a commanding bark and normally helps Annie on night patrol to keep the coyotes at bay. As a pup, he was a bit of a mischief maker, and there were times when we wondered if he would be a good fit with the rest of the LGD. But he has settled firmly into his role and the routine of daily farm life. He usually sleeps during the day, but at night he is constantly on patrol and guards both barns and all three pastures.

We are excited to welcome Red Star Farm's Iris to join our Great Pyrenees guardian dog group. We were lucky that Matt and Sarah's farm recently had a litter of Pyrs that are from working stock and could fulfill our needs to guard the alpacas. Iris is badger in color, and is a cute little butter ball. Looking at her parents, we know that she will grow into a beautiful LGD, who will guard the alpacas along with Olaf, Sven and Annie. She will be coming in late spring, and I look at her as an early birthday present to me

"Annie" rounds out our current group of livestock guardian dogs. When Eriphos Farms stopped their Great Pyrenees breeding program, we were at a loss where we would find another livestock guardian. Luckily Dr. Lee of Petersburg Veterinary Clinic put us in contact with Red Gate Farm owned by the Londrigans, who had Colorado Mountain Dogs. We had never heard of this breed before that time. We have found out what great livestock guardian dogs they are, and Annie has become a hidden jewel. She has taken over the spot left by our beloved Lucy, and is the "'cria' dog". Whenever a cria is born, Miss Annie is right there in position waiting to see her new charge. She then watches over all the cria, checking to make sure that they are with their dams, and doing well. She has become an integral part of our LGD, and will be essential with the upcoming crop of cria.
